Tour overview

The Tsodilo Hills, located in north-west Botswana near the Namibian border in Okavango Sub-District, are a tiny area of enormous quartzite rock formations rising from ancient sand dunes to the east and a dry fossil lake bed to the west in the Kalahari Desert. For more than 100,000 years, the Hills have provided people with refuge and other resources. Participate in activities such as hiking, a tour of the Tsodilo Museum, and cultural activities such as traditional music and dancing with the local population.

    Day 1

    Arrival at Maun airport

You will be collected from the airport. Meet with your safari guide briefly in Maun before departing for the Tsodilo Hills. Maun to Tsodilo Hills takes about 3-4 hours depending on what you see along the road; arrive late afternoon and select to drive to the hills. There is a small museum and an airport near the campsite. For thousands of years, people have painted and performed rituals on the Tsodilo Hills. UNESCO estimates that the hills contain 500 distinct sites representing thousands of years of human occupation. The hills' rock art has been related to the indigenous hunter-gatherers. During our two-night stay, we enjoyed hiking, rock art viewing, a tour of the Tsodilo Museum, and cultural events with the adjacent Basarwa village (pre-arranged).
