    Day 1

    Drive from Gondar to Sankaber

You will drive to Sankober from Gondar early in the morning (7 am at the latest). Along the route, you will make stops to pay for activities such as game drives and parks. If you would want, you can be dropped off at or near Buyit Ras and hike for three to four hours to Sankober, which goes near the brink of the cliff. As you get closer to Sankober, you'll be able to enjoy stunning views from both sides of the escarpment crest, where you might probably spot the native Gelada baboons. Your goods will be waiting for you in Sankober. You'll be camping in Sankober for the night.

You will leave Sankober and head into a valley where the Wazla (or Koba) River flows. A game drive will be part of the activities (this river is typically dry). You will be able to see the Jinbar River waterfalls cascading into the Geech Abyss as you emerge from the valley. You will pass the Jinbar River and climb up into the village of Geech if you continue on. Four or five hours total for the walk.

One of the highlights of the journey is this location, which offers breathtaking views across the lowlands. You will cross Korbete Metia, a massive rock wall that opens up to reveal stunning views of the escarpment and the lowlands, as you make your way to Chenek. Moreover, this is an excellent location to see lammergeiers. In Chenek, you'll spend the night camping. Trekking takes seven to nine hours total.
