6 Day Gorillas, Chimps & Wildlife

Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe toward Kibale Forest National Park, home to one of Uganda's richest concentrations of primates. The journey takes you through Uganda's countryside, with views of local communities, farms, tea plantations and the rolling landscapes of western Uganda.

After lunch along the way, continue toward Kibale and arrive at your lodge in the afternoon. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax at the lodge or enjoy a short nature walk around the surrounding community.

The evening is reserved for relaxation and preparation for the following day's chimpanzee trekking experience.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for your chimpanzee trekking briefing.

Once briefed, enter Kibale Forest with experienced guides and rangers in search of a habituated chimpanzee community. As you move through the rainforest, you may encounter red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, L'Hoest's monkeys, forest birds and other wildlife.

When you locate the chimpanzees, spend time observing their natural behavior as they feed, communicate, groom and move through the forest canopy.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Later in the afternoon, visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk. The wetland is known for its impressive birdlife, primates and community-based conservation activities.

Return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.

After breakfast, leave Kibale and begin the scenic transfer toward Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The journey takes you through beautiful western Uganda, passing crater lakes, tea plantations, villages and rolling green hills.

Upon arrival in Queen Elizabeth, have lunch at your lodge before heading out for an afternoon game drive.

Explore the savannah plains in search of elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kob, warthogs, waterbucks and other wildlife. Your guide will also search for lions and other predators.

As the afternoon progresses, the changing light over the savannah creates excellent opportunities for photography before returning to your lodge.

Start the day with an early game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After lunch, continue south toward the Ishasha sector.

If time and road conditions permit, enjoy a game drive through Ishasha in search of its famous tree-climbing lions, alongside elephants, buffaloes and other wildlife.

Continue toward your selected Bwindi trekking sector and check into your lodge.

After an early breakfast, transfer to your designated briefing point. The ranger guides will explain the trekking rules, safety procedures and responsible gorilla-viewing practices.

Enter Bwindi's ancient rainforest and begin searching for your assigned gorilla family.

The trek can take several hours depending on where the gorillas are located. The terrain can be steep, muddy and challenging, but the forest itself forms a major part of the experience.

Once you find the gorillas, spend the permitted viewing time observing them in their natural environment.

After the trek, return to the park headquarters and transfer back to your lodge.

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning before your private transfer to Kihihi Airstrip.

The drive from the Bwindi area to Kihihi depends on your exact lodge and trekking sector, so the transfer should be scheduled according to the day's flight.

Board your scheduled domestic flight from Kihihi toward Entebbe.

This avoids putting a traveler who has just completed a physically demanding gorilla trek into an extremely long road transfer back to Kampala.

Upon arrival in Entebbe, connect with your onward international flight or continue to your hotel.
